Scene1:Walking into a fast food establishment and the person behind the counter is chewing which involve concentrating on the chewing more than on you.
Scene2: You enter into the reception area of lawyers offices and two receptionists are talking to each other while they pay little or no attention to you.
Scene3: You call a big establishment with a query and inevitably it is a call centre. However, at the start the menu is unclear and you consequently choose the wrong option. After waiting on the line for ten minutes the person on the other side of the line says she is unable to help you and cuts the call.
These scenarios play itself out every day and almost everywhere. Which side of the call or counter are you? If you are the receptionist, the cashier, the call centre operator, do you take the person you are dealing with as a person or an object? What if roles were reversed: do you mind being disrespected? It speaks volumes about you being the person who ought to deliver a service but fails to adequately fulfill your task. You rob people every day of their dignity because you have treated that person as a lesser person. You, fulfilling your task with the right energy, can transfer positive energy which brings joy and happiness to most. Why then would you add to the stress of the next person by your inadequate service? Is it that you don’t value yourself? If this is the case then the domino effect can be huge for your bad service may result that your victim may, in his job, replicate what you did and add more negativity. This impacts people who then become depressed and suicidal, all because you performed your task inadequately.
Take time to bring joy to people. It is understandable that you may not be able to help everyone with their queries, but it is in how well you deal with the situation. Spread love and joy with your enthusiasm, your caring and sharing. This will bring positivity which, no doubt, is contagious. You will benefit and, equally important, so will many others just from one good interaction. Don’t underestimate your role and contribution to society. If up to now you have been a damp squib, then make the effort to turn things around. If you think that your role is just to pass on a piece of paper or to pass the chicken across the counter, then you are so badly mistaken. Your role is to bring peace, contentment and happiness to people. That indeed is your role. You may not need to change jobs but rather you should understand what your job really is.
