The dangers of modern society is that man is on a path of self-destruction. In analysing this, an opening comment on the matter is that life is not simple even though every gadget on the market promises you ease and simplicity. Then you open books on the ninety-nine ways to improve yourself. All these are welcome, but the reality is that it starts with you.

Truth is simple. As the converse saying goes “you have to cover up a lie with a lie”. This is where much of the complexity of life seems hidden. The subject matter is massive, but, we will try to be brief. You may be a hoarder, your cupboards are full of clothes and other paraphernalia. That is the external physical part of your life. Had you been a nomad, then life would have been totally unbearable to cart this “hoardrobe” around. This is the first hint – live like a nomad and travel lightly. On the internal self, there’s the horde of emotions, from desires to fears and much clutter in between. This internal hoarding is so confusing that you become stressed. This stress is like a magnet for the stresses from work issues, relationship issues, parenting, etc. The stress is worsened by the mere thought of for example “what am I going to tell her” when confronted with a simple situation. Had you kept it simple, it will just be a truthful statement, very much straight to the point. But no, you decided to twist it this way and that way to make it palatable to her. You wasted some time doing that and you were totally stressed. It is because you have forgotten your nomadic roots, which is to live a simple lifestyle, and not carry so much baggage. This internal baggage weighs you down.

This is the first lesson in life: Keep it simple and live like a nomad. You came into this world with nothing and you will leave with nothing. Your deeds and inclination to the truth will be worth more than its weight in gold. If you fill your bags only with illusions then that is what your life represented. Your stress is caused by this illusion. Make life real, keep it simple, enabling you, with your nimble feet and light baggage, to make a real difference, not only to yourself, but to countless others.
