“What is the theme of the poem?”. “What did the writer mean in this paragraph?”. These are familiar questions in assignments and examinations. Other questions may have a mathematical angle to it. And you ask what relevance do these have to your life. The simple answer to your very valid question is that subjects become compartmentalised and the interconnection is lost.
The important take-out from this is that you don’t and cannot be a specialist in everything. The second part is that there is important information in those subjects even though you feel less inclined to these subjects. There is much more analysis on the topic but the above will suffice for now. Media propaganda is not easily dealt with. It is the schooling system that makes you susceptible to such propaganda. How can I make that statement? Current events (in whichever time period but specifically over the last century and a bit) highlights the thinking of those living through it. I use the “current events” as an example of how the thinking of the majority of people, and possibly you included, has been stifled because you thought you were doing right. You are an expert in your field or at least knowledgeable enough to be differentiated from others outside your field. Yet your life is not only about your field and requires some knowledge of other subjects to be able to navigate through life. One such subject is logic but logic is not taught at school.
This is your challenge from this moment if you want to fulfill your potential, being a complete human being. Life has evolved to the extent that things have become mechanical and people are applying their minds less and less. The mind is such an important tool that it is a shame that you will want to waste it. In order to fulfill your potential, you cannot be overwhelmed by propaganda but rather by applying your mind to matters that is important to you and your family. Just because you are brilliant in a particular field of study, does not mean that you can totally abdicate the responsibility of all other fields to everyone else. If a doctor was to suggest cutting off your leg, you will want to know why and understand all the consequences, both good and bad. How is it then that the only information you peddle is not with any research but merely the propaganda you have been fed?
Every person has a responsibility to ponder over things. The ideal person that you are, will not abdicate that responsibility.
