Relationships and the accumulation of wealth are diametrically opposed. In planning how to grow your financial base you can have a plan that covers the various aspects and challenges to make you successful. A relationship though is a moving target.

Business, in essence, is mostly built without much emotion but rather on facts and figures. Relationships are built with moving targets. The variables in relationships are great but there must be at least one pillar that will give the relationship some solidity. Were you to take relationships for a regular health check, you are likely to find a good score at times and a bad score at times. The businessman will be concerned if his income statement fluctuated too much without him necessarily influencing it, i.e. he is not automatically aware of the reasons for the fluctuations. Yet in relationships there are so many factors that can influence it. There is one common approach to improve matters both in business and relationships. You cannot change what your financial statements of the past nor can you change what has happened in your life previously. However, both the businessman and you want the same thing – to be happy – to be happy with your business’s performance and to be in a relationship that always has the goal of happiness.

Your happiness lies in decisions you make. It is always good to be reminded that “doing nothing” or “not making a decision” is a decision. Relationships are about love and I am yet to meet someone who says “I don’t love anyone”. There are many types of relationship but you must love someone. It is also true that love is not always returned as is evidenced in Shakespeare’s play, Twelfth Night, which deals with unrequited love. Love nevertheless.
