It’s not only moving that creates new starting points. Sometimes all it takes is a subtle shift in perspective, an opening of the mind, an intentional pause and reset, or a new route to start to see new options and new possibilities. Kristin Armstrong

You must look within for value, but must look beyond for perspective – Denis Waitley

Perspective is guided by your background, your experiences, your education and your circumstances. This is the basis for acknowledging that your views and approach to life will be different. Many people go through life looking at the other and envying what others may have of education, wealth, dress-sense, social standing, opinions etc. There are many lessons to be derived from this but one that stands out, yet missed by most, is perspective – your view of things. Considering that your “shortcomings” may somehow touch an nerve and lead to you being envious, it is but a challenge and it is never a setback. Challenges create opportunities and the first opportunity is that it must unlock your thinking. It needs to be a mindset that each and every one is important, you have value and you can add value – and this all without being arrogant but confident. Confidence is yours and you should and must own it.

Growth does not overlook self-worth, but it in reflecting that you see the need to constantly learn and grow. Therefore, you look at each situation and you look for the benefit. As you grow, you will learn to consider that long-term benefit is superior to short-term benefit. Taking enhancement performance drugs in a race may give you short-term benefit but will most certainly affect you long-term. Thus, perspective is required in seeking ways to improve yourself, and understanding the futility of creating a short-term illusion, a fake illusion – it is like assuming another’s identity while in reality you are better than that.

Perspective is to have a good look, to get a good understanding. It may take time, but good things come to those who are patient. Financial wealth is not everything it is made out to be unless you have earned it lawfully, you understand the greater responsibility of it – be it more charity, be it that you must remain humble, be it that your kids must not be rich brats, be it that you remain ethical. This all requires perspective so that you do not get overwhelmed and lose your principles and values in pursuing your career, business opportunities or any other goal in your life.

Perspective also means that you may have to work a little harder than others to get a qualification or to get that promotion. Perspective also means that looking at your dress-sense and keeping up with fashion that you need to spend money buying a “broken” jeans when your 2-year old jeans looks pretty much the same (as the “new” broken jeans). Perspective is what you see and understand.

Yes, perspective is what you see and understand. Assuming someone else’s thinking, culture and mannerisms without understanding makes you a blind follower and lacing perspective. The person who can relate another’s circumstances to his without being influenced blindly is the one who speaks from his own perspective. It is not about doing what other’s do but doing what is right. You learn from others, but you don’t have to be them or like them unless you consciously sign up with their thinking and philosophy.
