You look at your date of birth and realise how long you have been on planet earth – I guess you were born here, right? For most people, their calculation skills aren’t that bad when calculating their age. So you manage to pick up some of the humour too – good. You want to know how serious this age thing is.
In truth, age is just a number. In reality, many things happened from when that number was one day to where you are now. Those who show advanced signs of graying, have somewhat less energy than what they likely had a decade before. What is important is what transpired before today. What is even of more importance is what you intend to happen going forward. There is a time limit on your life but fortunately you were not informed of it. I say “fortunately” because you can’t wait for death rather the most you must do concerning death is to prepare for it. Working from the end to where you are now, consider that at the end you hold the trophy aloft, a trophy signifying how well you have lived your life and that you were a contributor. That trophy is the legacy that you will leave behind.
As you may already be aware that there are different stages of life. Fast forward that and just say that there are different developmental levels and then there is the level where at least physically you will not really develop much except perhaps have a bigger paunch. You will have realised that looking after your health is important and don’t stop now. Keep on staying as fit as you can be. Don’t let your age determine your levels of health, maybe only a little, but being in shape will stand you in good stead. You look at that number, that number that indicates how long you have been alive and some will get excited and others will regret. There is no time for regret because until your last breathe you have the ability to push forward and achieve. Age is a number but it does not represent ability. The big plus of a higher number is experience. Experience also does not mean all-knowing, but in it is something you can impart/teach. It is part of education for younger people to engage older people. In education, those who teach learn more because they want to impart knowledge as best as possible. And those who learn from others are eager to gather more.
Today is more than another day added to your number. Today, you will decide on holding up that trophy at the end of your life. You will mend relationships, you will learn from others and offer sincere advice, you will cease being arrogant and embrace humility, you will seek to learn something each day and teach your kids and others values that will stand for eternity, you will take care of your health and maintain levels of fitness as best you can, you will replace words like lazy or idle with busy, you will replace a scowl with a smile, you will seek development of the self over being the self-proclaimed perfect one, you will tend to the environment and not be a litterbug, you will love and be loved, you will be an great example of goodness to others.
