When the world it topsy turvy, stay standing upright and tall. When the world appears seemingly unfair, be fair always, starting by being fair to yourself.
In the work environment, there is always that jostling for position or favour. In a world filled with corruption, many contribute to it rather than stand tall against it. You entered the life of the employed as the system dictates. You have hopes of a good job and of earning a good salary. Comparisons with others may lead to wrong conclusions because the information presented may lack some accuracy or certain comparisons may be slightly more difficult. You must remain true to yourself by being the best person and employee. When you are at any level of seniority, never fear that you will be replaced. In fact, work hard and train others to be able to replace you. For if you are irreplaceable, it may stop you from a possible promotion. It does not actually matter, you striving to be the best you can be means that no one can perfectly fill your shoes even though you trained them excellently to replace you in that position. But your value is more than that position because of everything you have contributed of yourself. The day retrenchments are announced and, inevitably, your name is on the list, you are not concerned because you have not tied that job to yourself, but you have transcended the job. With this attitude, you will already be ahead of most at your next interview. Your current employer owes you nothing, but you owe yourself the courtesy of being honest and being good at what you are employed to do and even more.
Yes, I have been there, done that, seen it all. Few are ready for the challenge. They either become corrupt or capitulate. Which one are you?
