“Is there any point in public debate in a society where hardly anyone has been taught how to think, while millions have been taught what to think?”
― Peter Hitchens
Systematically indoctrination has been happening over the centuries. We have reached a stage where debate is stifled and critical thinking abandoned because the version of “truth” rests with those who have the authority.
There is, no doubt, general agreement that there exists a sun and a moon and we all see it. This requires no further proof. However, there are many issues where there is no absolute undeniable proof for it or against it. Yet, there exists not the room for debates on these matters even if both parties were to bring their proofs. Thinking has been fashioned such that, should one think differently, then you are seen as crazy and every other definition that may go along with that. This is simply because we are now in a position that we simply accept everything we are told and taught (especially in our formal education).
We are often therefore presented with a one-sided story and even when given proofs, these proofs are not open to interrogation. And so we become accepting, accepting of what is presented and we don’t question. And we have now reached a stage where even the idea of “questioning” is ridiculous. If we were to use an example (and it’s just an example – but for now we will use the example for the sake of using one) – The example of the earth being round, as in spherical, or flat. By now most of you are either laughing or thinking that this blog is becoming ridiculous – but the question is really whether either or both parties have plausible reasons for their saying so (i.e. the earth being round or flat) and whether they have a rebuttal for the other’s argument. If your mind is purely stagnated on the one idea and not even listening to the other side, then the job of indoctrination has been done – you have most likely accepted something without even wanting proof. And that is the point. We have reached a stage that we have become accepting of virtually everything that has been thrown our way.
Further proof of this is the amount of fake news and chain messages doing the rounds. We are so easily influenced because our minds have been conditioned to accept, but not to think. And to this point, we have become prisoners, prisoners of the mind, prisoners who now are just mere zombies. Mission accomplished.
The painful process of undoing all this starts by asking questions and analysing alternatives. The job is huge for the self – how then are we going to influence 7 billion people who have already been brainwashed and indoctrinated. It does start with you – whether you believe it or not – you are likely a Zombie – so now work on changing yourself – be the difference and encourage others to arise from the slumber.
“One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them.” – Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
