It is a fun exercise to list all the reasons why you work. Then all the reasons for your current job and your career. And then ask yourself if this is really what you want? What changes would you like in any part of your life?
Those who are serious about their life, will do at least a part of that exercise, although it may scare them a little. Most of you will be in denial and not even look at it, while you make yourself believe that everything is all good. Introspection and circumspection are important such that, at the least, it means that you are no going through life sleepwalking. The two extreme views are to suggest that you can be anything you want to be or, on the other hand, that you are pigeonholed because that is what life is about. Success is relative and life, in general, is not about winners and losers. If you see everything as being winners and losers, you relegate people to the wastebin while uplifting people and developing people can create a win-win situation. Everyone has the ability to do more until their motto “always doing my best” becomes entrenched in their every action and thought. How many can claim to have reached their peak when they may have been challenged to give their all but the finetuning and necessary tools were not available and thus left them short of their best. Ask the student who came so close but was deemed to have failed the exam. The runner who missed the cut off, by mere seconds, at the finish line. These are defining moments only if you take it to learn from these near misses and seek the correct response and solution.
Perfection is what we strive for, but it is that we have strengths and weaknesses. It is to enhance the strengths and to minimise the impact of your weaknesses.
