“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”. Advice in short sentences is like a broad paint brush which does not necessarily cover the area perfectly. There is always detail. Sometimes advice you get is like poor quality paint and it does not quite do the job. Other advice is like a recipe where the “method” is all important. So, advice and guidance sought depends on you looking in the right places for the right people. It depends on whether you want to be educated or whether you want a quick fix.

“If at first you don’t succeed”, try, try again” are powerful words. But it will mean different things to different people because it is more of a war cry than a training manual. Basic training manuals can give you the insight in how to deal with advice and guidance. Sure, there are books on things like self-development and how to achieve success, but it may still need for you to have someone explain further to get understanding. Accountability and measurability are important tools to assess progress. Success is relative and, for most, should not be considered ultimate. This latter point needs a whole long discussion. As with everything in life, you need the basics or the foundation on which to build. Your formal education likely did not give you the tools to develop, learning the skills and getting the necessary platform in place to take you forward in life (in general), in your career, in your marriage and, perhaps, in your role in society. Most of this education is anecdotal without a firm basis for why you are doing certain things in your life. This sort of education does not teach you how to identify your ideal, solid, coping mechanism. A crutch of any sort should not be used as a long-term coping mechanism, unless, of course, you sadly lack a limb or too. It is your responsibility to build your foundation for growth and development which will aid you in all walks of life. The positive spin offs will be that those around you will benefit and replicate what you do and build their foundation. Such environments will lead to greater love, happiness and success.

Energise your life. Don’t dawdle but take the leap to a world in which you know that the buck stops with you. Take the leap, not only of faith but one of conviction because you have prepared well. It is your responsibility to prepare yourself well, using the aids available, from courses, books, and coaching sessions.
