Cleanliness and purity are two rather important attributes to have. Yet, most do not apply this idea consistently in their lives. The one who is poorly dressed, while there are possibly stains on his clothing, is scorned. All this is so superficial yet you may have just seen yourself as superior because of mere outward appearances.

Many take their cleanliness seriously. “Old” school will dare say that modern clothing and dress are not designed for neatness. There may yet be deep meaning in this but a discussion for another time. Nevertheless, a shower daily and fresh clean clothes are seen as cleanliness and good hygiene. But this remains the superficial mindset and your view of life. Your one-dimensional view does not take two other important aspects of the self into consideration. These two are nothing else but your mind and heart. Daily you are bombarded with all sorts of messaging, many, if not most, are of no benefit to you and may even be detrimental to you. You have experiences daily that affect the mind and soul. What then is your daily routine to cleanse yourself or do you allow the harmful influences to accumulate and damages your psyche. So total hygiene must go beyond the exterior and, importantly, be applied to the internal. Your quality of life needs this. You will learn to filter and avoid much like you will physically avoid, as best as you can, crawling through a rubbish dump. And much like a good diet helps your physical workout and fitness, similarly, you have to build yourself up to be a fully fit person on every front. The saying “you are what you eat” also applies to your exposure and intake of food for the soul and mind. Your hygiene impacts your health.

The task at hand is huge, but it is your life and its importance to you is for you to decide. Age is not the biggest factor, because only death separates you from striving to be a better you.
