The secrets of life are simple. Everybody may be aware of it, and it may well hog billboards and be flaunted all over the media (and, these days, most importantly onto your phones). It can be argued that it is the recipe that is a secret rather than the formula. Success and life go hand in hand.
You can draw up a list of ingredients and it may differ in length from one person to the next. Public forums are not ideal for detailed analysis. One of the drawbacks is that some things may be lost in translation. Let’s talk about two things on which you can chew. The rest, well, will depend on you. The first thing about success is to know the opposite of success is failure. A problem here is that people don’t understand these concepts because they read it on billboards, etc. The truth of the matter is that you must have the mantra of “failure is not an option”. Yet, everybody will read it differently and act differently. A simple guide, for now, is to love success more and to strive for success, little by little. Just as you need to understand what failure is, success needs to be defined. Because we don’t all see life the same way, you may have your own understanding of success. If you were to take one point from this note, then understand that success it a process and not a point in your life. (there is a deeper meaning to this, far beyond public statements). “Failure is not option” is not the mantra because the positive statement is “success is the goal”. How then to marry the two?
Life has generally become mechanical. There is a place for being “mechanical”. But development, progress and the energy needs something called passion. An example is that sometimes people claim their marriages are dull and boring because there is no longer passion. Life’s like that. Passion is the one thing in life that will keep you strong on the path. Of course, there may be a need to revisit the “path” because it may be energy in the wrong direction. Passion, though, is such an important ingredient and with the right guidance, that energy will become rather useful.
Life has become mechanical. The system with its billboards in all areas of your life and environment may confuse you. This causes people to consider themselves “failures” at times. Societal norms and pressures are no less harmful. An example of the wrong idea of success is the piece of paper that you will get on successfully completing grade 12 or a diploma course or a degree at university. These, at best, are stepping stones to for future endeavours but it is not success in itself. It is “break time” and if you did well, you get a pat on the back and told to keep going. This is not failure but a setback. If it didn’t go well enough, then it is back to the drawing board and look at plan B and C. What is missing?
My space is up. The next step in life is yours. It depends on your passion and real passion will make you teachable. Just don’t be taught by billboards.
