Keeping things simple means less about which to worry. But know that a firm tough tree stump can divert a gush of water while a weak stump will be washed away quite easily. Thus, keeping it simple does not mean weakness and going with the flow, but rather it has a whole different meaning.

The mantra “willing, able and allowed” is often used in way that seems to empower you but for the last word” allowed”. This is where many people get stuck in life because they have boxed themselves in. This is not the simple life. In this scenario you are the weak stump that will be washed away and will have no idea where you will end up. For those who understand the nuances of empowerment, simple means not overcomplicated but doing things with conviction. These words have a life of its own and unless I write a book on this topic alone, further discussion is needed for proper understanding. The first step in being willing is to consider yourself. Remember the flight attendant, just before departure, reminds you to first put on your mask for air before assisting someone else. Like that, you are in a better position if you are always teachable, if you seek knowledge, and develop understanding, then to be of assistance to others. But in your job, in may not be as much that you assist your colleagues necessarily, but you get better at what you do and are thus a benefit for yourself, your team and your clients. The same applies to varying degrees in your home and social environments. The nuisance stump will be washed away. The strong stump will and able to make a difference will transform into the rock others can depend on, without you losing anything but, the teachable you, will always gain. “Allowed” is that part which is better understood and approached with the correct knowledge and development.

Without willingness, nothing else matters. Just like sincere advice will not touch the intended recipient because the “willingness” to receive it, is not there at that point in time. For your part, always be teachable so that you be accessible to sincere advice.
