The average person often does more than he thinks. More often it is the objective, the ambition and the result that will differentiate one from another. As the saying goes “you get what you expect”.
Were you to take a simple bit of trivia, you will actually find it mindboggling. According to “Snowbrains” (https://snowbrains.com ), the average person, living up to the age of 80, walks 177 028 000km in his lifetime. That equates to approximately 4 200 000 marathons. Yet few people would have run a marathon. While this is the average, some will walk more and others less, but ultimately, all will do a substantial amount of walking. You ask “where, why, what” are the benefits from this walking. Was this walking for a mission? Was it a road to success? Was there any enjoyment/fulfillment in this walking? The majority of your walking is not for pleasure, neither for fitness, nor for success. You may claim it is for a mission because you need to study, work and attend religious and social gatherings.
This is merely an illustration that most people go through their lives unaware of their efforts, except exhaustion, and cannot really see the benefits of what they do. Those who run a marathon, get some satisfaction and, most likely, a medal – that was their goal and they achieved it. They are encouraged and in turn encourage others – they have slightly healthier lifestyles and account for their time as that which was spent on the road or trail. If in life, we are doing nothing to benefit ourselves except working to pay the bills and drive a flashy bank-owned car, then it is like walking 5 times around the earth and have nothing to show for it. In fact, you are unaware that you walked that far. You must give meaning to your life. Sure you must work and earn a living. You can be the best at what you do and then guide and inspire others. You can be a good student and encourage others to do the same. You can join those of your friends and family that are a step or two ahead of you in the lives and exemplary lifestyle or, if that is not possible, you can learn and develop yourself and be the change in your environment.
You may end up doing the same things, spending the same energy and time, but will you sweeten it by achieving, by being fulfilled and by inspiring. You have the ability to contribute. It is about making the next step you take a step to remember and by which you may be remembered. Faith has a role to play in your life.
